by CodeWarriorz ThoughtsIn ancient Rome, Christians were often protrayed as anti-government , seditious forces, and yes, even...TERRORISTS, and for sport, were thrown to the lions as a public spectacle, under the benign eyes of the Roman government.
This was done often to take the attention of the public from the excesses and failures of the incompetent and decadent government. It's a cheap shot to rally
the troops and insert yourself at the head of the agitated throng, by inventing
an enemy against whom a corrupt government can lead the charge.
Today, the new "Christians", in the ultimate irony, are the liberals, and those doing the throwing, are those in the "Christian" (in name only in my opinion),
RELIGIOUS RIGHT.
So, the radical, reactionary, religious right, heretofore to be called The American Christian Taliban, who would love nothing more than to establish their own theocracy, which, by coinicidence, they are well on their way to having under the Bush regime (the Second Infection as I call this current one), are working to insert their own, perverted version of fundamentalist theocratic rules and practices, as governmental guidelines.
There is the creeping of Religious McCarthyism across the face of the American tableau.
The Neo-Puritans are trying to impose their own bizarre set of censorship rules over broadcast media, the internet, and every other legitimate vehicle of entertainment and news transmission.
What they do is to look for issues, which, in an of themselves are really NOT of earthshaking import, and act like they are fighting for transcendant virtues by promoting their own agenda, nominally, in search of achieving religious freedom.
The "bare nipple" incident during the SuperBowl halftime activities, is a perfect example of this turning of a molehill into a mountain (with apologies to Ms. Jackson for any size comparisons).
We saw how the Religious Right, teamed up with the Bush crime family group in trying to establish a foothold into bringing the power of congress into the personal affairs of citizens. This went to the extent of Tom DeLay making thinly veiled threats against "activist judges" for not bending over and doing the "Wlll of the Father who Art in Washington ", i.e. "Father DeLay".
It is astounding that things like the Teri Schindler Shiavo affair, and "Nipple Gate" would generate such major news coverage and outrage and actions by Congress to intervene, and yet, the sexual rape of countless children by Catholic priests, did not bring similar cries from the whole Congress at passing laws controlling priests and the Catholic church which has acted to hide priests, to move them from place to place, and in other ways, to conspire to assist them in avoiding prosecution.
As rational citizens, those of us who are Christians or Jews or Muslims, or Atheists, MUST try our best to work to prevent the relgious intolerants from further burrowing deeper into the fundaments of our government, and from inflicting their own brand of religious intolerance and censorship on the public at large.
